  6. This Read Me file contains important information about
  7. your new software. You don't have to read this
  8. information now, but after you've installed and looked
  9. around the program, review the following information.

  25. PAINTER CLASSIC'S INTERFACE
  26.  
  27. Painter Classic's interface is organized across a series
  28. of main menus and a set of floating palettes.  There are
  29. four main floating palettes: the Tools palette, Brushes
  30. palette, Art Materials palette and Controls palette.
  31. Utilize the User Guide and take the time to explore what
  32. each of these palettes can do.
  33.  
  34. WACOM® INTUOS(tm) TOOL ID(tm) IS SUPPORTED IN PAINTER CLASSIC
  35. With Tool ID you can attach any number of Intuos Pens to any number of 
  36. Painter Classic brushes (one Intuos Pen can represent an oil brush, 
  37. another Pen a pencil, and so forth). If you want to change what Painter 
  38. Classic brush an Intuos Pen is programmed to be, simply select a 
  39. different Painter Classic brush with the tip of that Intuos Pen. The 
  40. Pen will remember that brush until a different Painter Classic brush is 
  41. selected. With a Wacom Intuos tablet system and Tool ID you can 
  42. simulate a natural work environment and eliminate brush palettes to free 
  43. up your screen area for drawing and painting.

  45. PAINTER CLASSIC'S BRUSHES
  46. It is the incredible Natural-Media(r) brush engine that
  47. separates the Painter family of products from all other
  48. graphics programs. If you spend a little time investigating
  49. how the brush engine works, Painter Classic will open up
  50. as the most incredible art program you have ever used.

  52. There are six extra brush libraries on your CD.  They provide
  53. an enormous variety to the types of artwork you can create.
  54. Explore the CD and try these possibilities.

  56. WACOM(r) INTUOS(tm) GRAPHICS TABLET SYSTEM BRUSHES FOR PAINTER CLASSIC
  57. In the two brush categories of Airbrush and Liquid, the use of
  58. the Wacom Intuos Airbrush "fingerwheel" has been implemented. The
  59. fingerwheel is used to adjust a specific parameter of a tool.
  60. The list below details what parameter of each tool is
  61. controlled by the fingerwheel (and any other parameter of
  62. control).

  64. Intuos Airbrush Tools (Total: 7)
  65. Feather Tip: Fingerwheel controls Opacity
  66. Thin Stroke: Fingerwheel controls Opacity
  67. Medium Stroke: Fingerwheel controls Opacity

  84. NOTE: The standard pressure stylus will not work with brushes
  85. which have been fingerwheel enabled. With your Intous airbrush stylus
  86. click the Airbrush or Liquid icon in the custom palette to load the library
  87. equipped with these brushes. When the standard pressure stylus is used
  88. again, Painter Classic will detect the new tool and will automatically switch
  89. to the corresponding library.

  91. SEAMLESS TILING
  92. Seamless tiling makes Web projects a snap with an easy star
  93. switch right on the document window.  You can utilize an
  94. existing image or develop your own within a small area,
  95. then repeat it perfectly over the entire Web page.

  97. IMAGE HOSES AND CLONING
  98. The image hose paints with a variety of changing images.
  99. It is a brush that you can load with any of the libraries
  100. you find on the CD.  Experiment with the images and the
  101. variations you can use.
  102.  
  103. NOZZLES
  104. The Image Hose Nozzles that are included on this CD-ROM work
  105. differently with different variants.  Experiment to see the
  106. effects.
  107.  
  108. TEAR-OFF TOOLS
  109. Don't overlook the new Tear-off Tools. Grab any brush
  110. (like the Pencil) and drag it off the palette. Presto.
  111. You've created a custom palette. You can drag any
  112. of the tools onto a custom palette.
  113.  
  114. SCRIPTING
  115. Scripts allow you to record every action you make in Painter
  116. Classic. Scripts are similar to video tape.  You can record
  117. and play them back at any time from the Script palette.
  118.  
  119. The recording process is simply a matter of clicking record,
  120. then Stop and then naming the script.  When you're done, the
  121. script appears in the palette.
  122.  
  123. To erase a script, select delete from pop-up menu at the
  124. bottom of the palette. Select the script you want deleted and
  125. click delete.

  131. The User Guide for Painter Classic can be accessed from the
  132. Help pull-down menu in Painter Classic. It is provided to you 
  133. as an Adobe(r) Acrobat(r) Portable Document Format (PDF) file.
  134. If you do not already have Acrobat Reader installed, you may
  135. install it from the Painter Classic software CD.

  139. COMMON PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
  140. ----------------------------
  141. - Painter Classic only supports the Photoshop 3.0 plug-in API
  142.   (not 4.0). Plug-ins, like Alien Skin Eye Candy, which
  143.   require the Photoshop 4.0 filter API will not work
  144.   with Painter.
  145.  
  146. - Several Adobe Photoshop 4.0 plug-ins are designed to work
  147.   only with Photoshop. They will appear in the Painter menus,
  148.   but will not run.

  152. Manual ERRATA

  154. - Page 28 indicates that files can be dropped from the Finder
  155. into Painter Classic. This specific feature is not supported,
  156. but has been replaced by two alternatives:
  157. 1) Use File Open feature within Painter to access files from
  158.   other sources or
  159. 2) Drag and drop from another application into Painter Classic.
